THE BOOK OF MORMON to anchor the season

HOUSTON, Texas (January 28, 2012) — The Gexa Energy Broadway at the Hobby Center 2013-2014 season, announced today, brings some of Broadway’s biggest hits to Houston.

The sensational season kicks off with THE BOOK OF MORMON, the multi-Tony Award® winning musical from the creators of South Park.

The season continues with the swashbuckling musical play prequel to Peter Pan PETER AND THE STARCATCHER, the razzle-dazzle fan favorite CHICAGO, the musical tale of everlasting love  GHOST, and the Tony Award®-winning Best Play that TIME Magazine calls “A Landmark Theater Event,” WAR HORSE.

September 3 – 15, 2013

Winner of nine Tony Awards® including Best Musical, THE BOOK OF MORMON features book, music and lyrics by Trey Parker, Robert Lopez and Matt Stone. Parker and Stone are the four-time Emmy Award®-winning creators of the landmark animated series, “South Park.” Tony Award®-winner Lopez is co-creator of the long-running hit musical comedy, AVENUE Q.  The musical is choreographed by Tony Award®-winner Casey Nicholaw (MONTY PYTHON’S SPAMALOTTHE DROWSY CHAPERONE) and is directed by Nicholaw and Parker. THE BOOK OF MORMON contains explicit language. May 27 – June 1, 2014

“A Landmark Theater Event” – TIME Magazine. A heart-warming tale of loyalty and friendship, WAR HORSE is the winner of five 2011 Tony Awards®. England, 1914. As World War One begins, Joey, young Albert’s beloved horse, is sold to the cavalry and shipped from England to France. He’s soon caught up in enemy fire, and fate takes him on an extraordinary journey, serving on both sides before finding himself alone in no man’s land. But Albert cannot forget Joey and, still not old enough to enlist, he embarks on a treacherous mission to find him and bring him home. This powerfully moving and imaginative drama, filled with stirring music and songs, is a show of phenomenal inventiveness that is currently playing to packed houses in London and around the world. At its heart are astonishing life-sized puppets created by South Africa’s Handspring Puppet Company, that bring to life breathing, galloping, charging horses strong enough for men to ride.
